FREEPORT: Teriminal MCR + Critical Talks Programme: DocumentationWed 20 Feb 2019
Over the course of a week, FREEPORT: Terminal MCR was a space to explore art, technology and citizenship in the age of the internet. The exhibition featured new commissions from a cohort of international artists including Geocinema, !Mediengruppe Bitnik + Omsk Social Club, Kyriaki Goni, Lisa Rave and Brandon Covington Sam-Sumana.
FREEPORT: Terminal MCR was accompanied by a talks programme curated by Nathan Jones (Lecturer in Fine Art, Digital Media at Lancaster University) to intersect the exhibition programme, bringing world thinkers to The University of Salford, to question and explore the ideas platformed by the artists. Speakers at FREEPORT: Critical included: Dr Rachel O’Dwyer, Ollie Zhang, Mitra Azar, Christy Constantakopoulou and Dr Emmanouil Tranos. A podcast by Nathan Jones, featuring the talks programme will be released at a later date, please check on our socials for updates.
Parallel to the exhibition was the work exhibited on the nnn.freeport.global; a platform commissioned by the NNN for the distribution of artworks, using the backstreets, black markets and divergent parts of the internet to create, exhibit and debate the value of art. QR codes placed near the work at FREEPORT: Terminal MCR were used to access additional content on the freeport site to gain further insight into the research and exploration of the artists. Find out how to navigate the platform by watching PWR’s how to guide:
